Preparing for Your Registration Coach Meeting

Dear student,

I’m writing to provide you with information about preparing for your Registration Coach Meeting. During this 30-minute Zoom meeting, you will discuss your course schedule for both the fall and spring semesters.

You will also receive your 6-digit SOLAR registration PIN from your coach. SOLAR is Reed’s online registration system. Do not leave your meeting without your PIN. You will not be able to register without it.

As you prepare for your meeting, make sure to read about  at Reed. Please pay particular attention to the following resources:

  • Two videos— and —will give you an overview of Reed requirements and help you get ready for your meeting.

  •  contains additional information and resources.

  •  can help you organize the classes you are interested in taking. To use the worksheet, make a copy and save it as a Google doc. Find class information for each semester in the . You can copy the first eight columns for each course you wish to take and paste that into your worksheet, which will capture the pertinent information including the course code, title, and meeting times. You can then share the Google doc with your Registration Coach on the day of your meeting.

  • Some majors require that you get started in that department right away. Click on majors from this  to see sample first-year course plans.

Here are some important considerations as you plan out your classes:

  • Your course plan should include Humanities 110 Y, our required yearlong course. Double-check that you have selected the same instructor and HUM 110 conference section number in the fall and spring. Transfer students can read more about the expectations surrounding Humanities 110 on the .

  • Most students enroll in 3.5 units each semester of their first year; however, you may take up to 4.5 units each semester. (Adding yourself to a waitlist does not count toward your registered units.) You can discuss this possibility with your Registration Coach during your meeting.

  • Not sure what you want to study? Your first year can be an opportunity to explore the liberal arts and begin Reed’s  before you dive into a major.

  • You should already have taken  to help determine your proper placement in certain course sequences at Reed. If you missed taking a placement exam, please let your Registration Coach know during your meeting and contact Reed Orientation at reedorientation@reed.edu
