Thomas Ayouti earned his PhD in French Studies at the University of Toronto in 2024 and has taught French language and literature since 2017, most recently at the University of California, Irvine. His research and teaching interests center on contemporary French and Francophone literature, gender and masculinity studies, and theories of vulnerability. He is currently completing a monograph on the poetics of vulnerability in post-1980 French and Francophone literature, alongside research on masculinity in nineteenth- and twentieth-century French literature. He also works as a literary translator and playwright: with Ben Koonar, he co-translated Hervé Guibert’s The Dogs (Les Chiens) for Semiotext(e); his play Si grande est notre envie d’aimer will be staged in France in 2027.
