Connie Zheng is a multidisciplinary artist, writer, experimental filmmaker and scholar of environmental and land-based art practices. Through projects such as wall-sized map drawings, community mapping and participatory sculpture workshops, analog animated films and multi-channel audiovisual installations, her work examines the intersections between public, personal and land-based knowledge, the geopolitics of labor, and the ways in which national mythologies and landscapes are co-constituted. Her projects have been shown internationally, through venues such as the San Francisco Asian Art Museum, Peabody Essex Museum (Salem, MA), National Asian Culture Center (Gwangju, South Korea); Ilham Gallery (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia); and Esker Foundation (Calgary, AB, Canada). Connie's work is held in the collections of KADIST and the David Rumsey Map Center at Stanford University, and she has received support for her creative practice through organizations such as the Headlands Center for the Arts, the Oak Spring Garden Foundation, Marble House Project, and Willapa Bay AIR. She was featured in Phaidon Press’ Vitamin V: Video and the Moving Image in Contemporary Art (2025), and press coverage of her artwork can be found in Artforum, ArtReview, ArtAsiaPacific, Ocula, and MUBI Notebook, among other publications. Scholarly publications include a chapter in the Routledge Companion to Contemporary Art, Visual Culture, and Climate Change, as well as articles in the Journal of Urban Cultural Studies and Errant Journal. Connie holds a BA in Economics and English from Brown University, an MFA in Art Practice from the University of California — Berkeley, and is currently completing her Phd in the History of Art and Visual Culture, with a Designated Emphasis in Film and Digital Media, from the University of California — Santa Cruz (degree expected in 2027).
