Please tell us why you are interested in the Reed in Kenya program, and what you hope to gain from the experience.

Please describe previous travel or study abroad experiences outside wherever you consider your home country, if any.

What do you hope to gain from conducting a short, field-based independent research project?

Note: We will work with you to brainstorm and develop project ideas during the program, there is no need develop a research project plan before the program.

Can you describe your previous experience with hiking or spending long periods of time outdoors?

Our trip will involve multiple opportunities to spend full days outdoors and an excursion to Mt. Kenya.

What courses have you taken or other experiences have you had in the past (at Reed or elsewhere) that you think are particularly helpful or pertinent to your plans to potentially study abroad in Kenya?

This question is not about past travel experience, there is a place to describe those above.

Do you have skills that would be helpful for other members of the group to know about?

For example, being CPR certified or multilingual.

What is your communication style?

If accepted, you will be living in close quarters and doing group work/learning intensely with other Reed students nearly 24 hours a day for 15 days. If possible, cite a specific example of how you handled communication hurdles in social work/life situations in the past.

Are you comfortable with dorm style accommodations, shared bathrooms, and other features of communal living?

The research station we are being hosted by does not have private rooms or private bathrooms, so we would like all participants to be aware of the living conditions while we are there.

Do you have any documented or undocumented learning or physical accommodation requests?

If so, we will make every effort to make those accommodations, however it is important to note that some accommodations may be more challenging or impossible while traveling.

Do you have any dietary restrictions, allergies, sensitivities, or intolerances that would be helpful to share with us?

If so, we will make every effort to support you while traveling.
