If you have a medical condition or allergy that affects what you can safely eat, start by reviewing .
If you're still concerned about your ability to eat safely at Commons, you are welcome to submit an accommodation request through DAR. DAR will review your request and consult with Bon Appétit to identify what dining options can meet your needs. Sometimes a personalized tour of the kitchen and a few small adjustments make it possible to eat safely. In other cases, Bon Appétit can prepare custom meals tailored to your dietary needs. If we work through those options and find that Commons still can't safely accommodate you, we may consider a full meal plan exemption at that point.
To request meal plan modifications, submit an accommodation request through the DAR portal. You'll need to include a letter from your medical provider with the following information:
- Your provider's name, title/credentials, and area of specialization
- Your diagnosis or condition, including its severity and whether it is temporary or chronic
- A detailed description of your dietary needs: foods you must avoid, foods you need to limit, and/or any foods that should be included in your diet
- For each food or allergen: the symptoms you experience and how severe and long-lasting they are. Note any allergens that produce an anaphylactic response.
- How symptoms are triggered: by trace amounts or only by larger or repeated exposure, and whether through contact, ingestion, and/or airborne exposure
- Any other ways the condition affects your health and daily functioning
Depending on the level of detail in your documentation, we may follow up with questions or schedule a meeting with you.
