Campus Sexual Misconduct Survey

What is the  Campus Sexual Misconduct Survey? 


The State of Oregon in 2023 focused on sexual misconduct reporting and response at Oregon higher education institutions. This legislation is intended to increase available information about sexual misconduct on campuses, to improve and increase resources available to students who experience sexual misconduct, and to help inform institutional efforts for prevention and response.

One part of this new legislation is a requirement for all colleges and universities in Oregon to conduct a biennial survey on student sexual misconduct experiences and institutional responses. Reed College has conducted similar surveys in the past. We’re happy to participate in this legislation to help us better understand the needs of our community here at Reed and how to meet them. 

The Campus Sexual Misconduct Survey has launched! We encourage ALL students to participate in the survey so that we can get as best an understanding as possible of the prevalence of misconduct in our community as well as whether and how the needs of our community are being met. Whether you’ve experienced sexual misconduct or not, please take this survey. Click the link below to be taken to the survey page.

Why should I complete this survey?

Your contribution to this survey directly impacts the ways we direct our prevention and response resources at Reed!  Responses to this survey contribute to community and institutional knowledge about the current climate on campus related to sexual misconduct. This includes information about prevalence and incidences of sexual misconduct, and perception of campus support and response. The information collected will inform prevention programming, response to sexual misconduct, and support services.

As an incentive for your participation, if you wish to provide contact information via a distinct, seperate form linked at the conclusion of this survey, you’ll be entered to win one of four $25 gift cards to Paradox café, prevention and support swag, or other Reed merch!

How confidential is this survey?

Incredibly. The survey itself will not ask for your name or any identifying information. The platform used is one of the two approved by the Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) for its security features. Your answers will not be connected to you directly in any way. Any qualitative responses provided in the survey  may be used in survey reporting, but will be generalized to ensure no one can make inferences about where they came from. 

But you said I’ll be entered into a raffle, so how will you know I participated?

Great question! Once you’ve completed the survey, you’ll be provided with a link to a dinstint, separate form where you can provide your name and/or student ID number. This form will not be linked to the responses provided to the Campus Sexual Misconduct survey. This way, we’ll be able to enter you into the raffle, but no one will know which survey response was yours.

How long is the survey?

Response times may vary, depending on information provided and sections completed. The survey takes most people an estimate of 10 to 30 minutes.

Can I complete the survey in separate sittings?

Unfortunately, you do need to complete the survey in one sitting in order for your data to save. Because we have set this up to not track identity, use cookies, or associate responses with a session there is not a way to provide a link to pick up where you left off should you exit the survey before completing it. 

What will be done with the survey results?

Once the survey closes, the data will be compiled and summarized by the Office of Institutional Research and Student Life. The original data collected in raw form will be maintained at Reed by the Office of Institutional Research and Student Life. As directed by the state legislative requirements, the summarized data will be made available to the community at large and provided to the Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) within 120 days of the survey closing. HECC will gather the survey data provided from all Oregon colleges and publish comparative summary information available online to the public.

What will be done with the survey results?

How do I take the survey?

All you need is internet access. A link will be made available to the Reed community when the survey opens. SHARE will also be hosting two survey sessions where you can just come to the GCC, grab snacks, and use a Reed laptop to complete the survey in a supported space.
